Byron Shire Council are currently undertaking roadworks on The Esplanade and River St, which is expected to cause significant disruption to market traffic.
PLEASE NOTE: On Tuesday February 7, the market must be accessed via Shara Boulevard.

“Roadworks – The Esplanade and River Street, New Brighton
Byron Shire Council wishes to advise they will be undertaking Road Reconstruction and Kerb & Gutter Works commencing on Monday 30 January 2017 and extending for an approximate 3 week period to 17 February 2017, weather permitting.
The worksite starts at the intersection of Strand Ave and The Esplanade and continues to the end of River Street at the intersection of Ocean Avenue (See diagram below).
Works include:
- Kerb & Gutter
- Stormwater Upgrade
- Road Reconstruction and Asphalt Wearing Surface
The works will be done in the following stages
Stage 1 – Kerb & Gutter and Stormwater Upgrade
Works will commence on Monday 30 January 2017 for approximately 5 working days, weather permitting. Works will be conducted under traffic control conditions with alternating one lane traffic flow. Please allow for extra travel time as delays are expected.
Stage 2 – Road Reconstruction and Asphalt Wearing Surface
Works will commence on Monday 6/2/17 to Friday 17/2/17, weather permitting. Works will be conducted under traffic control conditions with alternating one lane traffic flow. MAJOR DELAYS ARE EXPECTED
Alternative Access Routes Are
- Ocean Shores via Orana and Rajah Roads
- South Golden Beach via Shara Boulevard
- New Brighton shops, sports field and Farmers Market via Shara Boulevard
NOTE:
NEW BRIGHTON FARMERS MARKET MUST BE ACCESSED VIA SHARA BOULEVARD
A Council representative will make contact with residents who have driveway access within the worksite.
