The Grow Your Own Lunchbox Challenge:
The Grow Your Own Lunchbox Challenge is an initiative of the North Byron Farmers Market Association (operator of the New Brighton and Mullumbimby Farmers’ Markets).
Participating schools compete in four categories:
- Box of Vegetables from the School Garden
- Preserved, Pickled or Dried Products
- Garden Fundraising Ideas
- Lunchbox Challenge: which sees groups of students given ten minutes to create a healthy lunchbox on the spot, using food sourced primarily from their garden.
The inaugural Grow Your Own Lunchbox Challenge was held at the Mullumbimby Farmers Market on Friday, November 13, 2015. 2015 judges were David Forrest, Rod Bruin, Victoria Cosford and Ruth Hanrahan.
Participating schools were Ocean Shores Public School, The Pocket Public School, Shearwater Steiner School, Main Arm Public School, Crabbes Creek Public School and Wilsons Creek Public School.
The Mullum Farmers Market is a proud sponsor of school garden projects across the local region.
